The Fellowship Programme offers opportunities to people who are passionate about making an impact in both their lives and that of the society, community, city, and also country.

It also offers financial support, in other words, the fellowship recipients receive needs-based funding for university and access to support and development for cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset.

About Allan Gray Orbis Foundation

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, established in 2005 by philanthropist Allan W.B. Gray, is dedicated to fostering high-impact, responsible entrepreneurship in Southern Africa.

Its mission is to combat poverty by investing in and empowering entrepreneurs and leaders who accelerate meaningful employment and embody ethical leadership.

The Foundation offers several key programs:

Scholarship Programme: Provides high school learners with education funding and entrepreneurial development, aiming to cultivate young leaders with an entrepreneurial outlook.

Fellowship Programme: Supports university students, known as Candidate Fellows, with resources and mentorship to develop their entrepreneurial skills and leadership capabilities.

Association of Allan Gray Fellows: An alumni network offering a platform for continued growth, collaboration, and support among graduates who have become entrepreneurs and leaders.

The Foundation is primarily funded by an annual donation of 5% of the pre-tax profits from Allan Gray Proprietary Limited, reflecting a commitment to sustainable, long-term contributions to the region.

Through its holistic approach, the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation aims to create a community of entrepreneurs who will drive economic growth and social transformation across Southern Africa

Aim and Benefits of Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellowship Programme

Academic & Financial Support

Applicants with a combined annual household income of R1 million and below will receive full funding (university accommodation meals, textbooks & tutoring allowance, and a monthly stipend)

Applicants with a combined annual household income of above R1 million will receive needs-based funding.

Potential funding will be communicated to successful candidates after the camp stage.

Entrepreneurial Support

Mentorship from an individually assigned foundation staff member as well as a business mentor

Access to the foundation’s online entrepreneurial curriculum

Annual entrepreneurship conferences, seminars, and workshops

Access to a community of like-minded individuals

Access to business incubation

Access to business/venture funding via e squared, an Allan Gray Orbis Foundation sister entity (available to students on ivc programme and graduates depending on business idea viability)

Requirements For Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellowship Program

A Minimum of 60% in Pure Mathematics OR a minimum of 80% in Mathematical Literacy for final grade 11 results

A Minimum average of 70% for final Grade 11 results (excluding Life Orientation)

The Applicant must be under the age of 21 in the year of their application

The Applicant must be a South African citizen

An Intention to study towards a Commerce, Science, Engineering, Law, Humanities, Arts & Health Science (Excluding Medicine, Veterinary Science, and Dentistry) degree at WITS, UJ, UCT, NMU, RU, UWC, SU, UP, UFS, UKZN or TSiBA

Successful applicant candidates will be invited for an interview in July 2025

Successful interview candidates will be invited to a selection camp in September 2025
